About

Data scientist, empirical economist, and researcher — quantitative by training, applied by practice.

Portrait of René Theuerkauf

My background is consistently quantitative and empirical. I studied Empirical Economics and Policy Advice (M.Sc.) with a focus on econometrics, and extended that methodological foundation during my doctorate with modern machine learning and natural language processing. Across a decade of work — in industry and in research — I have built NLP models, customer-analytics pipelines, and deep-learning systems, and put them into production.

In June 2026 I completed my doctorate (Dr. rer. pol.) on the automated detection and generation of fake reviews. My current research develops this into a broader field: the detection and evaluation of fake content — fake news and AI-generated content — as generative language models make synthetic content ever harder to spot.
